Who we are

Gainesville Popcorn Removal is a local service focused on one job: taking down popcorn ceilings (also called acoustic or "cottage cheese" ceilings) and leaving behind a ceiling you are happy to look at. Around that core job we handle the work that usually comes with it: smooth finishing, knockdown or orange-peel retexture, ceiling repair and painting.

We work with two kinds of people most. Homeowners who are updating a house they live in, getting ready to sell, or finally tackling the ceiling they have disliked for years. And landlords and property managers who need a rental or condo turned over cleanly between tenants. In Gainesville, where the Census estimates that about 62% of occupied homes are rented, that second group matters a lot, so we have a dedicated page on rentals and condos.

Our standards

Four habits shape every job we quote.

Test first

Popcorn ceilings from homes built or remodeled into the 1980s can contain asbestos, and you can't tell by looking. We ask about testing before any scraping. If a ceiling tests negative, we remove it. If it tests positive, a licensed asbestos abatement contractor handles removal; we can help you arrange testing and referrals. We don't perform asbestos abatement. Read more on our asbestos testing page.

Honest ranges

We publish typical price ranges from national cost guides so you know roughly what to expect before anyone visits. They're estimates, not promises. Your real price comes from an in-home look at square footage, ceiling height, paint layers, repairs and the finish you want. See the cost guide.

Careful containment

Popcorn removal is messy. Rooms are sealed in plastic, floors and fixtures are covered, and debris is bagged and cleaned up before we call a room done. Our process page walks through each step.

Clear quotes

Your quote spells out what's included: prep, removal, finishing, painting if you want it, cleanup and debris disposal. No vague line items, and no pressure to decide on the spot.

Where we work

We serve Gainesville and the rest of Alachua County, the county seat and the towns around it. Gainesville's median home was built in 1983, and across the county the median is 1988, which means plenty of houses still carry the textured ceilings that were common in that era. Some smaller towns have even older stock: the Census puts Waldo's median year built at 1968, the oldest in the county.

What to expect from us: a reply to your request, usually the same day; straight answers about testing; a written quote based on an in-home look; and a clean room when the work is done. If you'd rather talk it through first, call Call (727) 300-6656.
